Bacon enthusiasts rejoice. U students have the opportunity to win a year’s supply of bacon.
The U is participating in the tenth annual College Colors Day, including a competition called “the Spirit Cup,” a national contest with schools from across the country. The contest is meant to show school spirit by using social media platforms, such as Instagram and Twitter, through hashtags #CollegeColors and #GoUtes.
The top school will win money for a general scholarship and the ultimate fan will have a chance to go the NCAA national playoff championship game, and, of course, he or she will also get a freezer chock-full of bacon.
The Collegiate Licensing Company annually hosts College Color Days in an effort to encourage school spirit in colleges across the country.
Alex Hardman, a student studying statistics, said he is excited to show his school spirit at U football games this season.
“With sports starting up here at the U, [it] means lots of fun weekends,” Hardman said. “Nothing is as fun as being in Rice-Eccles Stadium during a football game; the energy is amazing. It’s going to be a fun place to be.”
For Cristina Gallardo, a junior in English, the level of school spirit at the U was her main reason for choosing to attend school here.
“It was where I thought I would have the best overall college experience,” Gallardo said. “I knew that it would not only be a fun place, but it would be great academically too.”
