— Chris Samuels

In honor of the Music Issue, The Daily Utah Chronicle decided to sit down with some Utes on the volleyball team to find out just what kind of music they like to listen to.

What’s your favorite music genre?

Emma Kirst: Country.
McCall Phillips: Alternative rock.
Eliza Katoa: I like pretty much anything that has like a really big bass … like dubstep.
Bailey Bateman: ‘80s rock! My favorite band of all time is Def Leppard.
Alyssa Koening: Country.

Favorite band? (Bailey answered in last question)

Emma: I don’t really have a favorite.
MP: I don’t really have a favorite, just anything but country.
Eliza: I like everybody.
AK: Josh Turner, for sure.

Pump-up song?

AK: Eminem still pumps me up, and he always will.
Eliza: “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard. We all love that song.
BB: That’s the entire team’s song.

What was the first concert you went to?

MP: Jonas Brothers.
Emma: Drake.
BB: Mine was funny, I went to Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osbourne.
Eliza: I think I’ve been to one, but I can’t remember.
AK: Jason Aldean.

Last concert?

MP: Neon Trees.
BB: Def Leppard.
Emma: Wiz Khalifa.
Eliza: Ohh I remember now, I went to T.I. at Summer Jam.
AK: Tim McGraw, so good. Best concert I’ve been to.

Do you have any musical talents?

MP: I can play piano.
AK: I used to play the piano and sing when I was younger, but I suck now.
Eliza: I can sing … not really. Does dancing count?
AK: I was a competitive dancer for 15 years.
MP: (In response to Koening) I can tell by your moves in the locker room.
(The other athletes who did not answer the last question simply did not have any musical talents.)

The Utes will be using their pump-up music Wednesday night when they travel north to take on Utah State. Utah is looking to stay undefeated this season while the Aggies are fighting to climb back to an even record, as they sit with a 4-5 in 2014. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. MT.
