U remembers late professor
James Tsai Yuan Wu, a professor in pathology at the U, passed away after spending 32 years researching tumor markers -- the protein levels of cancer patients in remission that allow doctors to judge whether the cancer has returned. Wu traveled to Taiwan in March to work at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, where he runs a research lab and consults with hospital personnel.
Beckham-mania lives up to exciting billing
As "Beckham-mania" rolled into Utah over the weekend, people were awaiting a high-scoring, high-energy match from Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy. The 25,500 that showed up to Rice-Eccles Stadium were not disappointed in the match that resulted in 2-2 tie between international soccer star David Beckham's Galaxy and RSL.
Animal rights protestors arrested
Three animal rights protestors were arrested on Sunday for picketing outside a U researcher's home -- a violation of a new Salt Lake City ordinance requiring demonstrators to stay 100 feet away from a private residence. This is the first violation of the new ordinance.

Football: Utes prepare for bright season
Head coach Kyle Whittingham and the U football team weren't exactly satisfied with how the 2007 season turned out. However, considering the hand they were dealt, maybe they should be content with the outcome. The Utes found themselves in an early hole -- both health- and record-wise -- after their opener against Oregon State.
Sine: Farewell, old Chrony
Ten years before my employment as a photographer at The Daily Utah Chronicle, I was the 8-year-old little girl who sat in the corner of The Chrony office with my sister, watching TV, as my father did his work as the photo editor of the paper. It was 1992, and he was that man who brought his children to campus.
Local artists shine at the stroll
Salt Lake City's monthly gallery stroll, happening Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at participating art galleries, is something that everyone should go to at least once. Like many others, you might even find the event addicting enough to attend every month. First of all, the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll is proof that Salt Lake City does, in fact, have a thriving, local art scene -- in case you thought otherwise.
