The Chronicle is hypocritical, ‘democracy’ not part of Constitution

Editor:

I didn’t find it surprising to read a Chronicle editorial unfavorable of the Legislature’s budget cut (“Democracy declines in Utah,” Feb 22.)

After all, it has been a whole 20 days since Clayton?Norlen said that some legislators “recognized that the U students were ?imposing these fees on themselves-that it was our choice to make, not theirs” (“Save the rec center!” Feb. 2).

So, apparently it is perfectly fine for our fees to go up, but not for our tuition to do the same. Maybe I should have set up two bank accounts-one for fees and one for tuition-because it seems as though the fees’ account never runs dry.

Democracy declines? Can you tell me where in the U.S. Constitution, Utah Constitution or the Pledge of Allegiance the word “democracy” appears?

I hope my student fees don’t pay for the time you spend looking-or maybe it doesn’t matter, since it’s fine to raise fees.
