U.S. Army Reserve turns 100 years old

The United States Army Reserve is hosting its centennial anniversary celebration Wednesday and is inviting the U community to participate in the festivities with free food, games and music at Fort Douglas.

The free concert will include country star Charley Jenkins and the 312th U.S. Army Reserve Band, as well as performances by the Choral Arts Society of Utah, the Galloway Highlanders, the Salt Lake Scots, the Utah Pipers and Joe Cantafio. The public is welcome to attend for free and invited to bring blankets to sit on the grass.

Fort Douglas, located between the Huntsman Center and Research Park, was once home to U.S. Army troops. After being deactivated in 1991, much of the land and buildings were turned over to the U. The remaining section of the fort now houses the U.S. Army Reserve and includes student housing, classrooms, offices and buildings for receptions.
