A student reported that she was offered money and sex from a man whom she met through a dating service. When she turned down the offer, the man told her he was an undercover officer and that she had made the right choice. The man later gave her money to buy clothes for a date, but, when the date never took place, he demanded the money back and threatened to turn her in for prostitution. Investigators have serious doubts that the man is actually a police officer.

My Boyfriend's Back—A student reported finding a threatening note on her car. She said that she suspected another student who accused her of hitting on her boyfriend.

Pumpkin gravity research—A student reported that her car had been damaged while it was parked in the Medical Towers lot. It was later determined by officers that the damage was caused by a pumpkin that had been dropped on the car from above.

Thieves strike twice—In two separate incidents, vehicles parked in the hospital parking terrace were burglarized.

On both occasions, the thieves broke the windows to gain entrance to the cars and steal their stereos.

Jeeps being targeted—Another parking permit was stolen from a Jeep parked in the west stadium lot.

Tips for campus safety—The following are safety tips from the University of Utah Department of Public Safety:

*Avoid walking alone, especially at night. Let people know where you are going and choose a well-lit and populated route.

*Lock up wallets, purses, jewelry and other valuables.

*Report suspicious persons or activities to U police. Emergency phones are available on campus, and UUPD officers patrol campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year.

*Keep your residence doors locked at all times

*Remember, most crime is committed in response to the opportunity. The best prevention is to eliminate the opportunity.
