This morning as I pulled into the Rice-Eccles Stadium parking lot, I noticed that the entire middle section was blocked off for “event parking.” After driving through the parking lot a bit I noticed, as did several other students, that there was no longer any available parking. So I did what I had to do and drove to the next parking lot, in the Business Loop. Upon arriving at the Business Loop I noticed two things—first, that the parking lot is a lot smaller than it was before construction, and second, that there are two lanes of “A” parking for every lane of “U” parking. As you can expect, I didn’t find any parking here either, so I proceeded to the next parking lot, right above LNCO. Here, once again, I realized that the majority of the once-large parking lot is now a construction zone, and of course, there wasn’t any parking here either.
If the students at the university are the ones paying the tuition that provides the parking lots, stadium, facilities and the entire institution itself, then why is it that we are the ones that get the shaft when it comes to parking? Are we not this institution’s priority? Why does event parking have priority over student parking? And more importantly, why are there so many “A” parking stalls? I don’t recall ever seeing all of them filled, or even close to being filled. It appears it is time that our institution re-evaluates its priorities, and it’s also time our students tell the institution that without us there would be no need for them.

‘U’ stalls should be priority
